Editing Services
Total manuscript service. Includes content editing (for story pacing and flow, clarity and consistency throughout the manuscript, finding and eliminating plot holes, and strengthening characterization) and technical editing (for spelling, punctuation, grammar and usage, and sentence construction.) Base rate* is $1.00 per 500 words, based on final word count.
Basic service. Includes technical editing ONLY. Base rate* is $0.75 per 500 words, based on final word count.
Proofreading service. Includes spelling and punctuation corrections ONLY. Base rate* is $0.50 per 500 words, based on final word count.
Critiquing service. Confident in your technical skills, but want a second opinion on your story's strengths and weaknesses? I'll read your manuscript and provide a comprehensive report, including specific comments within the manuscript. Contact me for a quote.
Formatting Services
Formatting for one publishing site or house is included FREE with any editing package. Default will be Smashwords standards unless you tell me otherwise. Base rate* for each additional site/house, or a la carte formatting without editing services, is $15 per site. (Includes basic formatting for fiction manuscripts with a single cover image. Contact me for a quote if your project is more complicated.)
Self-Publishing and Other Services
Table of Contents Creation for ebooks. An active table of contents is a required element for publication to Kindle. Also helpful for Smashwords -- their Meatgrinder program will create a linked TOC automatically, but if you want greater control, you need to provide one of your own to prevent the software from doing it for you. Base rate* is $5 per manuscript.
Blurb creation. Along with a compelling cover image, a well-written blurb is your most important selling tool. These are the first things a prospective buyer sees when considering your book. If your blurb is clunky or full of errors, readers will assume your manuscript will be as well, and will be less likely to choose your book. Base rate* is $20 per manuscript. (If purchasing this service a la carte, I'll need a synopsis to work from.)
Synopsis Editing/Critiquing. A synopsis of your story from beginning to end is required by most publishing houses, especially for new authors. Sorry, I will not create a synopsis for you as I despise doing them. Avoiding them forever is one of the reasons I chose to self-publish. However, the synopsis is as important a selling tool as the blurb for a self-publishing author. As such, I will check your synopsis for errors and offer advice on strengths and weaknesses. Base rate* is $15 per manuscript.
